Dancing Violet Cake Recipe with Elegant Floral Frosting

Today’s feature highlights a striking design that celebrates bold color. Rich, statement-making hues complement three extra-tall, slender tiers to create a sleek silhouette that’s both elegant and daring. Soft, flowing ruffles add a delicate layer of texture and provide the perfect backdrop for a cluster of oversized African violets with gentle blooms and bright yellow centers. The combination feels surprisingly refined and is guaranteed to draw attention.

This stunning cake was created by Rachael Teufel, owner of Intricate Icings Cake Design in Erie, Colorado. Rachael designed this piece to celebrate the launch of a new Picture Perfect cake stand collection from Sarah’s Stands. The deep red cake paired with a pop of purple looks spectacular on the Dancing Violets cake stand — a pairing that truly elevates the overall presentation.

Rachael of Intricate Icings Cake Design shares the inspiration behind her creation:

“I enjoy blending elements from different sources into a unified design. The Dancing Violets cake was inspired by two gowns and the South African violet: one gown features wavy, flowing fabric and the other showcases a bold red-and-purple floral pattern. I was drawn to the movement of the fabric and the striking color pairing, and I wanted the violets to be much larger than life to become a focal point. The color combination works beautifully with the bright tone of Sarah’s stand.”

Rachael explains her technique:

“To achieve a dramatic profile, this cake consists of three double-barrel tiers, each 8 inches tall (stacked 6-8-10R). I wrapped the cakes in modeling chocolate and carefully seamed the top edges for a clean finish. The cascading ruffle is a two-tone modeling chocolate element that appears to hover above the top tier, creating movement and depth. I crafted the violets from gumpaste and enlarged them to emphasize the color and form.

I’m often cautious about placing very tall cakes on narrow pedestals, but this stand was exceptionally stable and supportive. It also has a durable, attractive finish that complements the design.”
