My boys have loved Star Wars for as long as I can remember. Their dad grew up a fan, so it was natural that he passed that passion on to them. When a topic excites them, I try to encourage reading by finding books that match their interests. DK Canada has been a reliable source for engaging, well-produced titles, and their Star Wars selection is no exception.
Our bookshelf already held DK titles about LEGO and superheroes, but we were missing up-to-date material on the latest film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. With March Break approaching, I decided it was the perfect time to add some fresh books. As always, DK Canada delivered.

The collection we chose focuses entirely on Star Wars: The Force Awakens and covers a range of ages. DK creates accessible, high-quality books for young children, older kids, and adults, so there’s something for every reader in the family.
Star Wars The Force Awakens: Incredible Cross-Sections
This impressive hardcover appeals to older kids and adults. My nine-year-old and his dad spend a lot of time studying the detailed cross-sections of the vehicles. Twelve stunning artworks reveal the inner workings of ships and machines, while informative text explains engines, weapons and technology. You get close-up views of Rey’s Speeder, TIE Fighters, the Quadjumper, the Resistance Transport, the Snowspeeder, the Millennium Falcon and more. The book includes a large fold-out section showcasing the Finalizer, the vessel used by General Hux and Kylo Ren.

Star Wars The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary
This sturdy hardcover is a definitive guide to the characters, droids, aliens and creatures of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Packed with striking photography and clear, authoritative text by Lucasfilm insider Pablo Hidalgo, the Visual Dictionary identifies costumes, weapons and accessories in detail. It also features three exclusive cutaway models created by Industrial Light & Magic model maker John Goodson. The book offers deeper looks at fan favourites like BB-8, Poe, Finn, Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma and Rey.

Star Wars The Force Awakens: Ultimate Sticker Collection
For younger fans who enjoy the movie but aren’t ready for heavy text, the Ultimate Sticker Collection provides an interactive way to engage with the story. More than a simple sticker book, it contains informative pages that prompt kids to find specific stickers and scenes where children can create their own layouts. The book includes over 1,000 reusable stickers featuring new characters, creatures, droids and ships, giving kids plenty of options for imaginative play.

Star Wars The Force Awakens: Reader Level 1 New Adventures
Part of DK’s long-established reading program, this Level 1 reader is designed for children beginning to read. It combines simple, clear text with vivid images from the film to help new readers build confidence. In my experience, young readers will benefit from some parental support with this title, but it’s also enjoyable for more experienced readers. The book includes a short quiz and a parents’ guide in the back to help extend learning.
DK Canada’s motto, “Learn to Read, then Read to Learn,” reflects their commitment to creating books that teach reading skills while sparking curiosity. Their titles encourage children to develop a lasting interest in reading.
Check your local bookstore for DK favourites to take home, or visit the publisher’s website to explore more titles.
And for a little extra fun, share some age-appropriate Star Wars jokes to make your young Jedi laugh.
