Keto Mojito Recipe: Refreshing Low-Carb Mint Cocktail Guide

This low-carb keto mojito is a lighter take on the classic Cuban cocktail, made with rum, fresh lime, and mint.

Who doesn’t enjoy an occasional adult beverage? I certainly do. And mojitos are one of my favorites. This keto-friendly version keeps the bright mint and lime flavors you love while removing the sugar-heavy syrups and juices.

When I discovered that many spirits—vodka, tequila, rum, whiskey, and gin—contain zero carbs, I got excited. That doesn’t mean they’re calorie-free, so moderation is still important, but it does mean you can enjoy mixed drinks if you swap sugary mixers for low-carb alternatives.

I decided to recreate a mojito without the traditional sugar and fruit juices. The result: a refreshing, low-carb cocktail that’s easy to make at home.

How to make a Low Carb Mojito:

Place about five large mint leaves and wedges from half a lime into a 16-ounce glass.

Use a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon to gently press and twist the mint and lime together. Muddling releases the essential oils from the mint and the juice from the lime, concentrating the flavors. I prefer using the flat end of a muddler to avoid getting leaves stuck in grooves; a wooden spoon works fine if you don’t have a muddler.

Add 2 ounces of white rum and 1 ounce of unsweetened lime juice to the glass, then stir to combine and further release the mint oils.

Fill the glass with ice, then top with chilled club soda or seltzer water. Carefully stir in 1 teaspoon of your preferred low-carb sweetener. I find it’s best to add the sweetener after pouring the seltzer—some sparkling waters cause the drink to foam if you add the sweetener first, which can make a mess.

Garnish with a small sprig of mint and a lime wedge for an attractive, refreshing finish.

Enjoy your keto mojito slowly and responsibly. The drink preserves the classic mojito flavor with far fewer carbs, making it a great choice for low-carb or keto lifestyles.
