Happy Halloween! Here are our costumes this year.

This year Avery wanted to be a scarecrow.
Kyle and I aren’t as into costumes as we used to be, though we did dress up for a Murder Mystery party on Monday night, which was a blast. Both kids waited until the last minute to decide—so I spent a few hectic days pulling everything together.
The makeup was my favorite part.

I hunted everywhere for overalls. Even though overalls are rumored to be back in style, they were surprisingly hard to find. I scored a 3T denim overall dress with Disney Princesses at a thrift store and had a seamstress add a longer denim skirt to it. We covered the princesses with patches and even added a cute patch on the back.

The plaid scarf and the patch fabric came from an old pair of boxer shorts—resourceful and perfect for a homemade look.

It all came together really well for a last-minute, throw-together costume.

Little Aiden wanted to be a doctor this year—a very dashing little doctor, I might add. “The doctor is in.”

His costume turned out great, thanks to the seamstress. I really need to learn to sew.
For his outfit I found adult-sized scrubs and a white coat, and had them tailored to fit him. The little head mirror is a pocket mirror hot-glued to black stretchy elastic—simple and effective.

It added a perfect finishing touch. 😉

He looked adorable at our church party, especially next to his little Frankenstein friend.

I love looking back at past costumes, so here are Aiden’s through the years:
2008 – pea in a pod
2009 – itty bitty spider
2010 – Brobee from Yo Gabba Gabba
2011 – the Fire Chief
2012 – a race car driver
2013 – a doctor

And here are Avery’s costumes over the years:
2003 – a ladybug
2004 – a pumpkin
2005 – a bumblebee
2006 – a cowgirl
2007 – TinkerBelle
2008 – a princess (with a pea)
2009 – a witch
2010 – a little red devil
2011 – a witch (again)
2012 – a clown
2013 – a scarecrow

Have a fun day—Happy Halloween!
